Charmaine Miranda, PhD, R.Psych

I am the founder of Compass Clinic and a Registered Psychologist. When I was a child, I wanted to be a detective. I am now a brain detective. I find out why we see certain behaviour and what we can do about it. My aim is to bring an understanding of brain-behaviour relationships and practical suggestions for building on strengths and improving weaknesses. I have a unique skill set that combines training as a neuropsychologist and as a teacher. I have expertise in ADHD, FASD, Developmental Disabilities, Autism, and giftedness. I see children and adults. I also do behavioural consultation (including training to improve executive functioning), and will review IEP documents, consult to teachers, and run professional education workshops. My PhD was completed in Auckland, New Zealand, on a Commonwealth Scholarship. I interned at the Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto. My past work experience includes 10 years at BC’s Children’s Hospital where I worked in Neurology, Autism, and Neonatal Follow-up. I hold academic positions at both UBC and SFU.

Child Psychologists in Vancouver: Helping You Help Your Child

We know that every child is unique. But to get a true understanding of the individual child’s strengths and challenges is a complicated process. A child who seems to be having difficulty with behavior or learning could have challenges in several areas. It includes cognition, learning, attention, executive function, or emotion regulation. At Compass Clinic we have professionals who have a broad range of experience in clinical and school psychology. They will conduct a precise and comprehensive assessment, and form a treatment plan for children who show issues including the following:

  • Learning Disabilities
  • Giftedness
  • Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Behavioral Difficulties
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Adjustment Difficulties
  • Self-esteem
  • Divorce / Separation
